Essay Referencing

Further to the seminar we then moved on to being taught how to reference in an essay, I already was aware of how to do this but it's always nice to have a recap to check on whether you're on the right track. We were also asked to discuss a question put forth.

What are your thoughts about the open work?

Being the confused person that I am it took a while for the question to sync in but I believe it has it's pros and cons. Open work can be expressed through any form may it be art, media, the design possibilities are endless, however, it can at times prove difficult for a designer to have an open brief, hence, the first thought for me would be, 'Right what exactly is my topic? What do I make?'

In what do you think open works are poetic?

When I read the question it reminded me of a piece I saw on global warming. In the great words of Fredrick Bernard 'A picture is worth a thousand words'.

This piece of illustration was created by Eglė Plytnikaitė and it spoke volumes.

How would you contextualise the open work to your practice?

Well I particularly like to use briefs as an excuse to learn more ways to create artwork so I guess I will continue doing that.
