Character Production

In this process and production lesson we have been introduced to the basic principles and creative process to create a character, we were not given a brief for the character so it was up to us what to design. I thought of using this opportunity to create a sticker character for Line, a social app used for texting and calling most popular for their line characters Brown and Cony.

The task began with creating rough sketches for character ideas. So started my design process and I created random sketches of possibly unidentifiable creatures (Can you tell I'm awesome at drawing?)

Among the random doodles I found one character that I really liked so started to play with the movement aspect giving it responses to different scenarios and perspective. I started by trying to give the character life by drawing in perspective view instead of the plain 2D style.

Meet Appa Gae

Hence, Appa Gae was born. Appa Gae also translated as Daddy Dog was then drawn more precisely using grid paper with the front and side perspective after which placing it on illustrator to get a digital version. It could still use more neatening up as it still looks messy.
